The role of a Birth Doula
The official role of a Doula is to accompany and support a pregnant woman in all physical, mental, and spiritual aspects throughout pregnancy and birth. A Doula assists in birth preparation, provides comprehensive understanding of the process, helps create a structured birth plan, and offers support when adjustments are needed. This includes guiding the woman with movements, breathing techniques, tools to manage fear and pain, as well as providing support through massage, reflexology, herbal remedies, and nutritional advice. The goal is to facilitate a beautiful, healing, and empowering birth experience for both the mother and child.
After birth, the Doula continues to support the mother during the initial breastfeeding phase, providing knowledge and offering a dedicated postpartum massage aimed at promoting body and soul fusion to prevent postpartum depression. This phase also involves guidance on herbs and nutritional advice to help restore the body and strengthen the mind.
Even when you have family and friend support sometimes specially during this emotional period you prefer to have a professional birth supporter that comes with an extensive bag of tools and fully focus on your needs.
Research showed that the presence of a Doula can significantly shortage the time of labour, reduce the need of pain killers and medical intervention, support with preventing depression, rise the success of breast feeding and support faster recovery for mother and new born.
